to the upper shock. Refer to
Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Left Side
or
Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Right Side
in Body Rear End.
- Remove upper shock dust cover.
- Remove shock absorber upper retaining nuts and reinforcement from the
shock absorber.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the wheel and tire. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.

- Disconnect the road sensing suspension harness connector from the shock
absorber.
- Remove the shock absorber wiring from the lower control arm.
- Remove the shock absorber mounting bolts from the lower control arm.
- Remove the shock absorber from the vehicle
Installation Procedure
- Install the shock absorber to the vehicle.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the shock absorber lower retaining bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the retaining bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Route the wiring harness along the inboard side of the lower control
arm.
- Connect the shock absorber electrical connector.
- Connect the air tube to shock absorber.
- Install the upper shock absorber into the
body.
- Install the upper shock absorber reinforcement and retaining nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the shock absorber upper retaining nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Install the shock absorber cover.
- Position the trunk trim into the proper location. Refer to
Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Left Side
or
Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Right Side
in Body Rear
End.
- Partially lower the vehicle onto the tires.
Important: The automatic level control system must have residual pressure in the system
before driving the vehicle.
- To add residual pressure to the automatic level control system, use the following
procedure:
11.1. | Turn ON the Ignition, with the engine OFF in order to activate the ALC
system. |
11.2. | After 45 seconds, turn OFF the ignition. |
- Lower the vehicle
