Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 419645 Size: SH

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  3. Remove the lower steering column trim cover retaining screws (2).
  4. Remove the lower steering column trim cover (1) from the steering column closeout shroud.

  5. Remove the wiring harness tie straps (2) from the steering column wiring harness.

    6. Object Number: 312291 Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the tilt and telescope module electrical connectors (2).

    7. Object Number: 312302 Size: SH
  7. Open the lower wiring harness shield (1) and remove the steering column wiring harness.

    8. Note the direction the steering column wiring harness is routed in the lower steering column wiring harness shield for re-installation.

  8. Remove the tilt and telescope switch (2) from the lower steering column trim cover (1).

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 312321 Size: SH
  1. Install the tilt and telescope switch (2) to the lower steering column trim cover (1).

    2. Object Number: 312302 Size: SH
  2. Install the steering column wiring harness (2) to the lower wiring harness shield (1).

    3. Object Number: 312291 Size: SH
  3. Connect the tilt and telescope module electrical connectors (2).

    4. Object Number: 312287 Size: SH
  4. Install the wiring harness tie straps (2) to the steering column wiring harness.

    5. Object Number: 419645 Size: SH
  5. Install the lower steering column trim cover (1) to the steering column closeout shroud and upper steering column trim cover.

    6. Ensure that the tabs (2) on the lower steering column trim cover engage with the tabs on the upper steering column trim cover then snap them together.

  6. Install the lower steering column trim cover (2) retaining screws.

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the lower steering column trim cover retaining screws to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  7. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
