Condition

Some customers may comment on a moan noise from the front of the vehicle while driving at low speeds usually under 32.19 km (20 MPH). The noise goes away when the brakes are applied.

Cause

This condition may be caused by the caliper to bracket mounting pin bolts having a high runout which causes the pads to touch the rotor at the outside diameter of the rotor only.

Correction

To repair this condition, replace the caliper mounting pin bolts in service kit, P/N 18046666. Follow the service procedure below:

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information SI Document ID #661591.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels SI Document ID #660218.

  3. Object Number: 793823  Size: SH
  4. Remove the caliper pin bolts (1). Note the location of the caliper pin bolts (1) and discard the pin bolts (1).
  5. Important: DO NOT apply lubricant to the caliper pin bolts threads or other brake pad hardware.

  6. Apply the NIGLUBE® grease to the new brake caliper pin bolt (1) slides from the Pin Kit, P/N 18046666.
  7. Important: The upper caliper pin bolt has a bushing as part of the bolt. The lower caliper pin bolt is of a solid design.

  8. Install the upper pin bolt (1) with bushing through the caliper (2) and into the caliper bracket (3).
  9. Install the lower pin bolt (1) without bushing through the caliper (2) and into the caliper bracket (3).

    Tighten
    Tighten the brake caliper pin bolts to 85 Nm (63  lb ft).

  10. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels Document ID #660218.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
