J 28733-B Front/Rear Spindle
Remover
Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the wheel and tire. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Insert a drift punch (1) or screwdriver into the caliper and rotor to
prevent the rotor from turning and remove the wheel drive shaft nut.
- Remove the brake rotor. Refer to
Front Brake Rotor Replacement
in Disc Brakes.
- Disconnect the front wheel speed sensor
electrical connector and unclip from the dust shield.
- Vehicle equipped with brake wear indicator sensor, disconnect and unclip
from the dust shield.
- Remove the wheel bearing and hub retaining bolts and dust shield.
Important: The wheel bearing and hub are replaced only as an assembly.
- Using J 28733-B
separate
the wheel bearing and hub from the drive axle.
- Remove the wheel bearing and hub and dust shield.
Installation Procedure
Important: Clean rust and foreign material from the knuckle mounting face, bore and chamber
to allow for proper seating of the bearing and knuckle.
- Install the wheel bearing and hub and dust shield to the drive axle.
• | Apply a light coating of grease to the steering knuckle bore. |
• | Do not handle the wheel bearing and hub assembly by the ABS sensor wire. |
- Install a new drive axle nut and draw hub and bearing onto the axle.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the wheel bearing and hub retaining bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the wheel bearing and hub retaining bolts to 130 N·m (95 lb ft).
- Connect the front wheel speed sensor electrical
connector and clip to the dust shield.
- Vehicles equipped with brake wear indicators connect the sensor electrical
wire connector and clip.
- Install the brake rotor. Refer to
Front Brake Rotor Replacement
in Disc Brakes.
- Insert a drift punch (1) or screwdriver
into the caliper and rotor to prevent the rotor from turning.
Tighten
Tighten the wheel drive shaft nut to 160 N·m (118 lb ft).
- Install the tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
