Removal Procedure
- Place the vehicle on a level surface.
- Block the front wheels.
- Apply the parking brake.
- Set the parking brake.
- Remove the surge tank mounting screw and nuts. Refer to
Radiator Surge Tank Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Position the surge tank out of the way.
- Remove the vacuum booster check valve from the vacuum booster
.
- Remove the master cylinder.

- Disconnect the inlet heater pipe and position out of the way.
Refer to

Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
- Remove the left closeout/insulator panel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side
in
Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Remove the left knee bolster. Refer to
Knee Bolster Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Slightly depress the steering
shaft protective boot to access the left lower booster attaching nut. Remove
the booster attaching nuts (2, 3) from the brake pedal
assembly.
- Remove the retaining clip (2)
from the brake pedal clevis pin.
- Remove the washer (1) from the brake pedal clevis pin.
- Remove the vacuum booster pushrod from the brake pedal clevis
pin.
- Remove the booster from
the vehicle.
- Remove the brake booster mounting gasket, if gasket replacement
is necessary.
Installation Procedure
- Install the brake booster mounting gasket to the booster, if removed
previously.
- Install the vacuum brake
booster to the vehicle.
- Install the vacuum brake
booster pushrod to the brake pedal clevis pin.
- Install the vacuum brake booster pushrod form spacer (1)
to the brake pedal clevis pin.
- Install the vacuum brake booster pushrod retaining clip (2)
to the brake pedal clevis pin.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the vacuum
brake booster attaching nuts (2, 3) to the vacuum brake booster
studs.
Tighten
Tighten the brake pedal to booster stud nuts to 23 N·m
(17 lb ft).
- Install the left knee bolster. Refer to
Knee Bolster Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Install the left closeout/insulator panel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side
in
Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Connect the inlet heater pipe. Refer to
Heater Inlet Pipe Replacement
in Heating, Ventilation and Air
Conditioning.
- Install the master cylinder onto the booster. Refer to
Master Cylinder Replacement
.
- Install the vacuum booster check valve to the vacuum brake booster.
- Install the surge tank. Refer to
Radiator Surge Tank Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the blocks from the front wheels.
- Release the park brake.
