Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 301912  Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  2. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  3. Remove the steering column control module. Refer to Steering Column Control Module Replacement .
  4. Remove the wiring harness tie straps (1,2).

  5. Object Number: 301919  Size: SH

    Important: Note the direction that the steering column wiring harness is routed for re-installation.

  6. Open the wire harness shield (1) from the lower steering column and remove the wire harness (2).

  7. Object Number: 419645  Size: SH
  8. Remove the retaining screws (2) from the lower steering column trim cover (1).

  9. Object Number: 295138  Size: SH
  10. Remove the retaining bolts from the tilt actuator assembly.
  11. Remove the tilt motor assembly.
  12. Remove the ball stud from the tilt motor assembly.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 295138  Size: SH
  1. Install the ball stud to the tilt motor assembly.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the ball stud to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  3. Install the tilt motor assembly.
  4. Install the retaining bolts to the tilt motor assembly.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  6. Install the retaining screws (2) to the lower steering column trim cover (1).

  7. Object Number: 301919  Size: SH
  8. Install the wire harness (2) to the shield (1) on the lower steering column.

  9. Object Number: 301912  Size: SH
  10. Install the wire harness tie straps (1, 2).
  11. Install the steering column control module. Refer to Steering Column Control Module Replacement .
  12. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  13. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
