J 37097-A Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
Removal Procedure
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the air filter housing assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls - 4.6L.
- Remove the heater hose from the heater outlet pipe (5). Refer to
Heater Hoses Replacement
.
- Remove the hold down fastener (3) from the heater outlet pipe.
- Using the J 37097-A
,
remove the hose clamps from the thermostat side of the heater outlet pipe (5)
hose and the surge tank hose (4).
- Remove the surge tank hose (4) from the heater outlet pipe (5).
- Remove the heater outlet pipe (5) from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the adapter hose to the thermostat housing end of the heater outlet
pipe (4).
- Install the heater outlet pipe (5) to the thermostat housing and place
the hold down bracket over the stud.
- Install the heater outlet pipe fastener (3) to the stud and hand
tighten the fastener.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the surge tank hose (4) to the outlet coolant pipe (5).
Tighten
Tighten the outlet coolant pipe fastener (3)
to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Using the J 37097-A
,
install the hose clamps to the thermostat housing end of the heater outlet pipe (5)
and the surge tank hose (4).
- Install the outlet heater hose to the heater outlet pipe (5).

- Install the air filter housing assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls - 4.6L.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
in Engine Cooling.
