Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution in the Preface section.
Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice in the Preface section.
Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose and the brake
pipe fittings.
Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting end in order
to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
- Remove the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose.
- Use a flat-bladed tool in order to remove the brake hose retainer from the
brake hose.
- Remove the brake hose from the brake hose bracket.
- Remove the brake caliper inlet fitting
bolt from the brake caliper.
- Remove the brake hose from the brake caliper.
- Remove and discard the two copper brake hose gaskets. These gaskets may
be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end.
- Install a rubber plug into the brake caliper let bolt hole of the brake
caliper in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
- Remove the brake hose bracket bolt from
the strut assembly and remove the hose.
Installation Procedure
- Remove the rubber plug from the brake caliper inlet bolt hole of the
brake caliper.
Important: Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets.
- Assemble the brake caliper inlet fitting bolt and the NEW copper brake hose
gaskets to the brake hose.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the brake caliper inlet fitting bolt to the brake caliper.
Tighten
Tighten the brake caliper inlet fitting bolt to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
Notice: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted or kinked after
installation. Damage to the hose could result.
- Install the brake hose to the brake hose bracket.
- Install the brake hose retainer to the brake hose.
- Remove the rubber cap or plug from the
exposed brake pipe fitting end.
- Install the brake pipe fitting to the brake hose.
Tighten
Tighten the brake pipe fitting to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
- Install the brake hose bracket and bolt
to the strut assembly.
Tighten
Tighten the brake hose bracket bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Bleed the brake caliper at the brake caliper bleeder screw. Refer to
Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding
.
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
