Condition/Concern:

2004 4.6L( L37, LD8) Engine with a lack of power and possible DTC P0336.

Recommendation/Instructions:

The 2004 4.6L(L37, LD8) engine is equipped with dual knock sensors: The harness pigtails can be easily switched to the opposite bank i.e.: the left side input on the right bank and the right side input on the left bank. The complaint would be lack of power because spark is retarding, retarding, retarding and no results. The other scenario is that a circuit code sets for one bank and the tech is looking at the wrong side to correct the concern. The correct routing is the longer harness lead goes to the rear bank. Changes are being made in production to have color-coding to identify the front and rear knock sensor harness.
