Intermediate Steering Shaft Seal Replacement LHD
Removal Procedure
- Remove the steering column and intermediate steering shaft. Refer to
Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
.
- Remove the vacuum brake booster. Refer to
Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement
in Hydraulic Brakes.
- Disconnect the fuel lines from the under hood fasteners in order to gain
access to the steering shaft seal retaining bolts.
- Remove the intermediate steering shaft seal retaining bolts.
- Remove the intermediate steering shaft seal
from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the intermediate shaft seal into
the vehicle.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Line up the intermediate shaft seal with the holes on the floor pan and install
the intermediate shaft seal bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 3 N·m (27 lb in).
- Install the fuel bundle into the under hood fasteners.
- Install the vacuum brake booster. Refer to
Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement
in Hydraulic Brakes.
- Install the steering column and intermediate steering shaft. Refer to
Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
.
- Operate the steering in order to verify there is no binding between the
intermediate steering shaft and intermediate steering shaft seal.
