Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Verify the coolant level is at the proper level in the surge tank.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.

Is the low coolant message displayed on the IPC?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Electrical Intermittents in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the coolant level switch.
  3. Inspect the ground circuit for an open or high resistance at the coolant level switch connector.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

  1. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  2. Inspect the control circuit at the coolant level switch connector for a 5-volt signal.

Is 5 volts present on the control circuit?

Go to Step 6

Inspect the control circuit of the low coolant switch for and open or short to voltage. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Inspect for poor connections at the coolant level switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the coolant level switch. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement .
