Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  2. Shift the gear selector lever to the REVERSE position and then to the PARK position.

Do the backup lamps turn ON in the REVERSE position and turn OFF in the PARK position?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition to ON position with the engine off.
  3. Display the BCM Exterior Lamps.

Does the scan tool indicate the Backup Lamp relay command is OFF?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 7

Disconnect the BCM connector C3.

Do the backup lamps turn OFF?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 5

Repair a short to battery positive voltage in the backup lamp switched voltage supply circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 8

Replace the reverse lamp relay. Refer to Relay Replacement in Wiring Systems.

Important: Perform the setup procedure for the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Computer/Integrating Systems.

Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Computer/Integrating Systems.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?

System OK
