Navigation System Components
The navigation system contains the following components:

The export navigation system contains the following additional components:

| • | VICS optical/microwave beacon antenna |
| • | VICS FM antenna integrated on the rear decklid |
Navigation Radio
The navigation radio, mounted in the center of the instrument panel, is the operator interface for the navigation system. Data is input from the operator to the navigation system via the navigation radio buttons and the display touch screen. The navigation radio also provides the following:
| • | Displays navigation, audio, TV and system information on the touch screen. |
| • | Soft keys are displayed on the touch screen for selection of menus and functions to operate the navigation system and the audio system. |
| • | Displays the navigation map with routing information on the touch screen. |
| • | Provides verbal guidance to the operator. |
Global Positioning System (GPS)
The GPS system collects position information for GPS satellites in orbit around the earth. Initial vehicle position is determined by the comparison of the signals received from multiple GPS satellites. The GPS antenna must have a clear unobstructed view of the sky and receive signals from three or more GPS satellites to display accurate position information. Current position is displayed on the navigation display touch screen as a carat. The vehicle speed signal received from the BCM and accelerometers in the navigation radio are used to continuously change the position of the vehicle as the vehicle is driven. The GPS system will continuously update ensure the correct position is shown.
VICS Module -- Export
The vehicle information communication system (VICS) card, an export only dealer-installed option, is installed inside the navigation radio. The VICS card uses signals from the optical/microwave beacon antenna and the VICS antenna via the TV antenna module to convey routing information to the navigation radio. The navigation radio either revises planned routing or relays the VICS information to the operator through the screen of the navigation radio and the voice guidance system.
Voice Recognition
The navigation system can utilize voice commands from the operator to control many functions of the radio. The voice recognition microphone is located above rear view mirror. In domestic vehicles this microphone is shared with the Onstar system. The microphone signal is then routed to the Onstar Voice Communication Interface Module (VCIM) then to the navigation radio where the signal is processed and the command is performed. In export vehicle the signal from the microphone is routed directly to the navigation radio. For a complete list of all available voice commands refer to the navigation supplement.
