Circuit Description

The driver door lock switch lock and unlock signal circuits provide inputs to the driver door switch (DDS) when the driver door lock switch is activated to the Lock or Unlock position. These inputs allow the DDS to detect a door Lock or Unlock request. The DDS provides power to the driver door lock switch. When the door lock switch is activated to the Lock or Unlock position, ground is supplied by G201. When the DDS detects low voltage on a signal circuit, it will send a message on the serial data line to the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) to enter the power door latches in Lock or Unlock status. The DDS monitors the signal circuits to determine how long the ground has been applied. If the DDS detects that a ground is applied for greater than 30 seconds, a DTC is set.

    • DTC B3142 Left Front/Driver Unlock Switch Circuit Low
    • DTC B3152 Left Front/Driver Lock Switch Circuit Low

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • The DDS detects a short to ground on the driver door lock switch lock or unlock signal circuit.
    • Condition must be present for greater than 30 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

Stores DTC B3142 or B3152 in DDS memory.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The DDS no longer detects a short to ground on the driver door lock switch lock or unlock signal circuit for greater than 30 seconds, and:
    • The DTC is cleared using a scan tool.

Diagnostic Aids

    • The following conditions may cause an intermittent malfunction:
       - There is an intermittent short to ground in the driver door lock switch lock or unlock signal circuit.
       - The driver door lock switch is shorted to ground internally or is sticking.
       - The driver door lock switch was pressed for longer than 30 seconds.
    • If the DTC does not reset after the code is cleared, then the problem may be intermittent. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.

Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. Tests for the normal state of the driver door lock switch using a scan tool. The scan tool will display the normal state as Idle, and Lock or Unlock when the switch is activated.

  2. Tests if the DDS is able to detect a change in the driver door lock switch state. The scan tool will display the normal state as Idle, and Lock or Unlock when the switch is activated.

  3. Tests for a stuck or shorted driver door lock switch. If the driver door lock switch is stuck or shorted, the state will change from Lock or Unlock to Idle when the driver door lock switch is disconnected.

  4. Tests for a short to ground in the driver door lock switch lock or unlock signal circuits.
