Close the rear compartment.

Is the trunk ajar message displayed?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  3. Close the rear compartment.
  4. With a scan tool observe the trunk ajar switch signal input in the BCM data list.

Does the scan tool indicate the trunk ajar switch signal is active?

Go to Step 4

Disconnect the rear compartment lid pull down actuator.

Is the trunk ajar message displayed?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Inspect for a short to ground in the trunk ajar switch signal circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid pull down actuator. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the instrument panel cluster/message center. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 10

Replace the rear compartment lid pull down actuator. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement .

Did you complete the repair?

Replace the body control module (BCM). Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Computer/Integrating Systems.

Did you complete the replacement?

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
