Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

    Object Number: 178630 Size: SH
  1. Remove the brake caliper from the mounting bracket and support the brake caliper (2) with heavy mechanic's wire (1), or equivalent; do NOT disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 680415 Size: SH
  3. Remove the brake pads (2) from the brake caliper bracket (3).
  4. Remove the brake pad retainers (1) from the brake caliper bracket (3).
  5. Important: The brake caliper mounting bracket bolts must not be reused. Replace the bolts with new bolts whenever the bolts are removed or become loose.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 171985 Size: SH
  1. Install the brake caliper mounting bracket to the knuckle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the 2 NEW brake caliper mounting bracket bolts and washers.
  4. The new brake caliper mounting bracket bolts will come with an adhesive already applied to the threads.

    Tighten
Tighten the front brake caliper mounting bracket bolts to 175 N·m (125 lb ft).

  5. Lubricate the brake caliper pin bolts with high temperature silicone lubricant.

  6. Object Number: 680415 Size: SH
  7. Install the brake pad retainers (1) to the brake caliper bracket (3).
  8. Install the brake pads (2) to the brake caliper bracket (3).
  9. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement .
