Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Remove the intermediate pipe assembly. Refer to Intermediate Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
- Remove the driveline closeout panel. Refer to Floor Panel Tunnel Panel Reinforcement Replacement In Propeller Shaft.
- Disconnect the shift control cable from the floor shift ball stud 3..
- Remove the retainer clip 1 securing the forward portion of the cable housing to the tunnel bracket 3.
- Remove the retaining clip 1 securing the rear portion of the cable housing 2 to the transmission bracket 3
- Remove the cable 2 assembly from the transmission bracket 3.
- Disconnect the shift control 1 from the transmission shift lever ball stud 2.
- Remove the shift control cable from the vehicle.
Important: Care should be used while handling the shift cable. The cable rod end guide tube is very unflexible.

Installation Procedure
- Guide the shift cable assembly into the body tunnel.
- Position the foam spacer 2 above the fuel feed lines. DO NOT allow the foam spacer to come in contact with the fuel lines.
- Place the cable assembly 5 into the funnel bracket 1 located behind the floor shift control.
- Install the retainer 4 into the cable assembly.
- Secure the cable assembly to the ball stud 3 on the floor shift control.
- Place the rear portion of the cable assembly 2 through the transmission bracket 3.
- Secure the cable assembly to the transmission bracket with the retainer 1.
- Secure the cable assembly 1 to the ball stud on the transmission shift lever 2.
- With the shiftier and transmission in the NEUTRAL position, adjust the shift control cable. Refer to Shift Control Linkage Adjustment .
Important: Care should be used when the shift cable is guided between the brake lines and the torque tube to ensure the cable rod end guide tube is not pinched.
