When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

During model year 2004 the Tech 2 pathing to certain information required to identify all electronic modules has been moved. The path is described below for the new layout. Bulletin 03-08-46-001 will not work on the 2004 Malibu and the XLR with the GMLAN system.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Steps needed to obtain information from a module using the new Tech 2 pathing while using the CANdi module:

OnStar/XM example

  1. Choose diagnostics
  2. Build the vehicle
  3. Choose Vehicle Control Systems
  4. Computer/Integrating system
  5. Choose the engine of the vehicle
  6. Steps for ESN or Stid - OnStar/XM as an example

  7. Choose ECU Identification Information
  8. Choose the module you are looking for (OnStar or Digital Radio Receiver)
  9. Choose Module 2 for the ESN and Stid

8. Choose Electronic Serial Number (XM)

6. Choose Module Replacement/Setup

7. Choose the module you wish to setup (OnStar)

8. Choose Program Phone number

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
