Pop Noise Heard When the Telescopic Steering Column is in Motion - keywords adjust cluster instrument IP lube tilt trim

Subject:Pop Noise Heard When the Telescopic Steering Column is in Motion

Models:2004-2006 Cadillac XLR

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Pop noise heard when the Telescopic Steering Column is in motion. This can be caused by a slip - stick condition between the instrument cluster lower trim gasket and the steering column. This gasket is located between the bottom edge of cluster trim or lens and the upper surface of the steering column. It is rubber and black in color.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Apply a light coat of lubricant (such as krytox or silicone) to the portion of the rubber gasket that contacts the column. There is no need to remove the cluster or lower the column as the lube can be applied with a dull instrument. Be sure to protect the exposed area of the column from excess lube.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
