Subject:Intermittent Poor and/or No Radio Reception FM Stations

Models:2004-2006 Cadillac XLR

This PI has been revised to update the repair procedure. Please discard PIC3865.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Static may be heard on stations with an otherwise strong signal or unable to stop at specific stations when using the "seek" function. This concern will be noticed when the vehicles ignition is turned on and the FM band is the band displayed on the radio from the previous ignition cycle. When the reception is poor, changing the radio band from FM to AM then back to FM typically corrects this concern.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If the reception DOES NOT correct itself when changing bands, Strategy Based Diagnostic should be followed. If the reception DOES correct itself when changing bands as described above, replace the reception module located on the right side of the rear deck lid.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
