The content theft deterrent (CTD) system, when armed, is designed to deter vehicle
content theft by pulsing the horns and exterior lamps for approximately 30 seconds
when an unauthorized vehicle entry is detected. However, the CTD system does not affect
engine starting.
An unauthorized entry can be any of the following with the CTD system armed:
• | When any door is opened without being first unlocked by an UNLOCK command
from a keyless entry key fob or a passive unlock from a key fob |
• | Forced entry into the rear compartment |
The components of the system are:
• | Body control module (BCM) |
• | Hood ajar switch (w/RPO UA2) |
• | Instrument panel cluster (IPC) |
• | Intrusion sensor (w/RPO UA2) |
• | Rear compartment lid ajar switch |
• | Remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) |
• | Theft deterrent alarm siren (Europe) |
Arming the CTD System
Use the following procedure in order to arm the system:
- Place the shift lever in park (P).
- Turn OFF the ignition.
- Open and close any door.
- Lock the doors with an active press of the vehicle door lock switch or
the key fob lock switch. Passive vehicle locking, if enabled, will also arm the content
theft deterrent (CTD).
Disarming An Armed System/Silencing An Alarm
If system arming has been requested by the power door lock switch or the transmitter,
it must be disarmed.
Important: Using the power door unlock switch does not
disable the content theft deterrent (CTD) arm mode. Also, disconnecting the battery
or pulling fuses does not disable the arm mode, since the body control module (BCM)
stores the CTD mode status in memory.
• | To disarm the CTD system in the armed mode: |
- | Press the UNLOCK button on the transmitter. |
- | Enter the vehicle passively with a correct key fob. |
• | To disarm the CTD system when activated (alarming mode): |
- | Press the UNLOCK button on the transmitter. |
- | Enter the vehicle passively with a correct key fob and put the ignition
into the RUN position. |

CTD Circuit Description
The following is a description of each component used in the content theft deterrent
(CTD) system:
Body Control Module (BCM)
The CTD system is an internal function of the body control module (BCM) which
utilizes class 2 serial data and various switch input information to perform
CTD functions. When the BCM detects an unauthorized entry, it will activate the horns
and exterior lamps. The BCM has 3 basic modes, disarmed, armed, and alarm,
for operating the CTD system. The different modes are described below.
• | The CTD state remains disarmed until the following conditions are met: |
- | Ignition in the OFF position |
- | All vehicle doors and decklid are closed |
- | A lock input is received from the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) |
• | The CTD enters the armed state when the above conditions are met. The
doors have been locked either by an active lock button press or by walking away from
the vehicle with the key fob if passive locking is enabled. The security indicator
is illuminated solid at this time. The vehicle contents are now secure. |
• | If a vehicle intrusion is detected, the BCM will put CTD into the alarm
state. In this state, the BCM pulses the horn and exterior lamps. If equipped, the
theft deterrent alarm siren will also sound. The CTD will enter alarm mode if one
of the following inputs is received: |
- | An intrusion sensor alarm on signal (RPO UA2 only) |
- | A hood ajar signal (RPO UA2 only) |
Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR)
The keyless entry system is an internal function of the RCDLR. The RCDLR system
can arm and disarm the CTD system. When the RCDLR receives a door lock or unlock signal
from the transmitter, the remote keyless entry (RKE) module sends a class 2
message to the BCM in order to perform the appropriate arm/disarm functions.
Inputs
The BCM monitors the following inputs:
• | Driver and passenger door ajar switches |
• | Driver and passenger power door lock/unlock switches |
• | Hood ajar switch (w/RPO UA2) |
• | Intrusion sensor (w/RPO UA2) |
• | Passive vehicle locking, a class 2 message from the RCDLR |
• | Transmitter LOCK/UNLOCK buttons, a class 2 message from the RCDLR |
• | Rear compartment lid ajar switch |
Outputs
The BCM controls he following outputs:
