DTC Descriptor

DTC C0896: Devive Voltage Range Performance

Circuit/System Description

Voltage is supplied to the electronic suspension control (ESC) module in the battery positive voltage circuit and the ignition voltage circuit. The ESC module monitors the supplied voltage to determine if it is within a valid operating range.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The ignition is ON

Conditions for Setting the DTC

Battery voltage is outside the normal range of 9-15.5 volts

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

All ESC functions are disabled

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • A current DTC will clear when the fault is no longer present
    • A history DTC will clear after 50 fault free ignition cycles

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the ESC module.
  2. Test for less than 5 ohms of resistance between the ground circuit terminal 2 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, test for 9-15.5 volts between the B+ circuit temrinal 1 and ground.
  5. If less than the specified range, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
If greater than the specified range, refer to Charging System Test.
  6. Test for 9-15.5 volts between the ignition circuit temrinal 19 and ground.
  7. If less than the specified range, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
If greater than the specified range, refer to Charging System Test.
  8. If all circuit test normal, replace the ESC module.
