Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

Verify that the heated mirrors are inoperative.

Do the heated mirrors operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine ON.
  2. Activate the rear window defogger.

Does the rear window defogger operate correctly?

Is the inoperative heated mirror the driver mirror?

Go to Step 5

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine ON.
  3. With a scan tool, observer the driver mirror heater parameter in the Driver Door Module (DDM) data list.
  4. Activate the rear window defogger.

Does the scan tool display Inactive?

Go to Step 12

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the driver outside rearview mirror harness connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine ON.
  4. Probe the heated mirror element supply voltage circuit of the driver outside rearview mirror harness connector with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  5. Activate the rear window defogger.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

  1. Connect a test lamp between the heated mirror element supply voltage circuit of the driver outside rearview mirror harness connector and the heated mirror ground circuit of the driver outside rearview mirror harness connector.
  2. Activate the rear window defogger.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine ON.
  3. With a scan tool, observer the passenger mirror heater parameter in the Passenger Door Module (PDM) data list.
  4. Activate the rear window defogger.

Does the scan tool display Inactive?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the passenger outside rearview mirror harness connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine ON.
  4. Probe the heated mirror element supply voltage circuit of the passenger outside rearview mirror harness connector with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  5. Activate the rear window defogger.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 10

  1. Connect a test lamp between the heated mirror element supply voltage circuit of the passenger outside rearview mirror harness connector and the heated mirror ground circuit of the passenger outside rearview mirror harness connector.
  2. Activate the rear window defogger.

Test the appropriate heated mirror element supply voltage circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the appropriate door module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the appropriate outside rearview mirror. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Locate and repair an open in the appropriate heated mirror ground circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the appropriate door module. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
