Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

Verify that the power folding mirrors are Inoperative.

Does the power folding mirrors system operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the mirror fold switch parameter in the Driver Door Switch Assembly (DDSA) data list.
  4. Activate the power mirror fold switch to the extend and retract positions.

Does the scan tool display Idle?

Go to Step 11

Is the retract function the inoperative function?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition
  2. Disconnect the appropriate outside rearview mirror.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the passenger folding mirror motor extend control and the passenger folding mirror motor retract control circuits of the appropriate outside rearview mirror harness connector.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Activate the mirror fold switch to the retract position.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 12

  1. Turn OFF the ignition
  2. Disconnect the appropriate outside rearview mirror.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the passenger folding mirror motor extend control and the passenger folding mirror motor retract control circuits of the appropriate outside rearview mirror harness connector.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Activate the mirror fold switch to the extend position.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 12

  1. Turn OFF the ignition
  2. Disconnect the power folding mirror retract relay.
  3. Probe the passenger folding mirror motor retract control circuit of the instrument panel (I/P) relay center with a test lamp connected to a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Activate the mirror fold switch to the retract position.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

  1. Turn OFF the ignition
  2. Disconnect the power folding mirror extend relay.
  3. Probe the passenger folding mirror motor extend control circuit of the I/P relay center with a test lamp connected to a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Activate the mirror fold switch to the extend position.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 10

Test the passenger folding mirror motor retract control circuit for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the passenger folding mirror motor extend control circuit for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the DDSA. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the appropriate outside rearview mirror. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the passenger door module (PDM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
