Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

Verify that the door ajar indicator is inoperative

Does the door ajar indicator operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Is the door ajar indicator inoperative?

Go to Step 4

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Open the appropriate door.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the appropriate door ajar switch parameter in the Body Control Module (BCM) data list.

Does the scan tool display Closed?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the appropriate door latch harness connector.
  3. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the front door ajar switch signal circuit of the door latch harness connector and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the door ajar indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 6

Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the front door ajar switch signal circuit of the door latch harness connector and the ground circuit of the door latch harness connector.

Does the door ajar indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 12

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Close the appropriate door.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the appropriate door ajar switch parameter in the Body Control Module (BCM) data list.

Does the scan tool display Closed?

Go to Step 11

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the appropriate door latch harness connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the door ajar indicator turn off?

Go to Step 12

Test the appropriate front door ajar switch signal circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 18

Test the appropriate front door ajar switch signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connectors of the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the appropriate door latch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connectors of the BCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Locate and repair an open in the appropriate door latch ground circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
