Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to the following procedures in SIR:
  2. •  SIR Disabling and Enabling
    •  SIR Disabling and Enabling
    •  SIR Disabling and Enabling

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Remove the console. Refer to Console Replacement .
  5. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) carrier. Refer to Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement .
  6. Tilt the steering wheel to the lowest position.
  7. Remove the upper and lower nuts retaining the steering column to the steering column bracket. Carefully rest the steering column on the I/P lower support beam. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  8. Remove the left windshield side garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Side Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.

  10. Remove the accelerator pedal assembly with the accelerator pedal position sensor. Refer to Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.6L (LH2).
  11. Disconnect the brake master cylinder push rod from the brake pedal.
  12. Remove the brake booster mounting nuts.

  14. Remove the mounting bolts from the cruise control release switch bracket.
  15. Reposition the cruise control release switch and the bracket.

  17. Disconnect the master cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal.

  18. Object Number: 95665  Size: SH

    Important: The following step assures proper trim fit during installation.

  19. Mark the location of the steering column bracket.
  20. Remove the bolts which secure the steering column bracket to the I/P lower support beam.

  21. Object Number: 95663  Size: SH
  22. Remove the bolts which secure the steering column bracket to the I/P upper support beam.
  23. Remove the steering column bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 95663  Size: SH
  1. Install the steering column bracket into position as marked prior to removal.
  2. Install the bolts which secure the steering column bracket to the I/P upper support beam. Do NOT tighten the bolts.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 95665  Size: SH
  4. Install the bolts which secure the steering column bracket to the I/P lower support beam.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten all of the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Connect the master cylinder push rod to the clutch pedal.

  7. Object Number: 71494  Size: SH
  8. Position the cruise control release switch and bracket to the steering column bracket.
  9. Install the bracket bolts to the cruise control release switch.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bracket bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).


    Object Number: 174198  Size: SH
  11. Install the brake booster nuts.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 29 N·m (21 lb ft).

  13. Connect the master cylinder push rod to the brake pedal.
  14. Install the accelerator pedal assembly with accelerator pedal position sensor. Refer to Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.6L (LH2).
  15. Install the left windshield side garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Side Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  16. Install the steering column to the steering column bracket. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  17. Install the console. Refer to Console Replacement .
  18. Install the I/P carrier. Refer to Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement .
  19. Connect the negative battery cable and install the cable bolt.
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  21. Enable the SIR system. Refer to the following procedures in SIR:
