Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Depress and hold the brake pedal.
  3. Place the gear selector in the REVERSE position.
  4. Observe the backup lamps.

Do both backup lamps illuminate?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Is only one backup lamp inoperative?

Go to Step 7

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the reverse lamp relay. Refer to Relay Replacement in Wiring Systems.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Probe the reverse lamp relay control side voltage supply circuit with a test lamp that is connected to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the reverse lamp relay control side voltage supply circuit and the backup lamp relay control circuit.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Depress and hold the brake pedal.
  5. Place the gear selector in the REVERSE position.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a 15-amp fused jumper between the reverse lamp relay control side voltage supply circuit and the backup lamps supply voltage circuit.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Do the backup lamps illuminate?

Go to Step 11

Locate and repair an open or high resistance in the backup lamp voltage supply circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Locate and repair an open or high resistance in the reverse lamp relay control side voltage supply circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the C3 harness connector of the underhood fuse block. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the body control module (BCM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
