DEFINITION: Windshield wipers are inoperative in all modes.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn the ignition ON.
  2. Attempt to operate the windshield wipers in all modes.

Are the windshield wipers inoperative in all modes?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the wiper HI/LO relay.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the wiper HI/LO relay voltage supply circuit at the switch of the relay and a good ground.
  4. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  5. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch to LOW/HIGH position.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 11

  1. Connect a test lamp between the wiper HI/LO relay voltage supply circuit at the coil of the relay and a good ground.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the wiper ON/OFF relay.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the wiper ON/OFF relay voltage supply circuit at the switch of the relay and a good ground.
  4. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Test the supply voltage circuit between the wiper relays for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the windshield wiper ON/OFF relay control circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the voltage supply circuit to the switch of the wiper ON/OFF relay for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the wiper ON/OFF relay.

Repair the voltage supply circuit to the wiper relays coils for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor.
  3. Test the ground circuit of the windshield wiper motor module for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the wiper motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Reconnect all previous disconnected components.
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
