Subject:Intermittent Roof Operation or Top Not Secure Message

Models:2004-2005 Cadillac XLR

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

To improve operating characteristics on the convertible roof, all XLRs with a convertible roof complaint built prior to April 1st, 2005 should have the recalibration procedure listed below performed. This procedure changes the open and closed reference calibration for the rear tonneau potentiometer and the front tonneau potentiometer on early 2004 MY cars.

Some customer concerns may be as follows:

  1. "Top Not Secure Message" on the DIC.
  2. The convertible top stops during travel of open or close.
  3. Convertible top inoperative.

Recommendation/Instructions:

The Tech 2 must have software version 25.009 or greater to perform this operation. Using the Tech 2 recalibrate the folding top module. The path to the recalibration is as follows: Body and Accessories > Roof > Module Setup > Folding Top Module > Recalibration > Enter. It is also located under the Computer and Integrating Systems > Module Setup > Folding Top Module > Recalibration > Enter. The Tech 2 will indicate when the operation is complete. Cycle the top either open to closed or closed to open. This establishes the new rear tonneau reference values.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
