New Route Cannot Be Calculated When Using 2007 Model Year Map DVD (Update Navigation System Software)

Subject:New Route Cannot Be Calculated When Using 2007 Model Year Map DVD (Update Navigation System Software)

Models:2004-2006 Cadillac XLR (European Export Vehicles Only)

Condition

Some customers may comment that they cannot calculate a route in their vehicle's navigation system when using the updated 2007 model year map disc, P/N 15923712.

Cause

This condition may be caused by the navigation system software. The format of the European map DVD, starting in the 2007 model year, is different than in previous year's and the navigation system software will require an update.

Correction

Important: Once the navigation radio is updated, it will still be compatible with the customer's original map DVD.

Important:

   • The ignition switch has two contact buttons. The upper button, with a circle indicator on it, starts the engine if the brake pedal is applied. The lower part of the button has two indicators on it; O and ACC. This button cycles the ignition through the following modes:
   • OFF -- This is the normal state upon entering the vehicle. It may also be reached from any other mode by depressing the ignition mode switch. The O indicator will illuminate after the customer enters the vehicle.
   • ACCESSORY -- This mode can be reached from the OFF state by depressing the ignition mode switch. The ACC indicator illuminates.
   • ON with the engine off -- This state can be reached from the OFF or ACCESSORY modes by depressing the button for about 5 or 6 seconds. The upper button, with a circle indicator on it, illuminates.

Technicians are to verify the need for a navigation radio software update and perform the software update if required.

  1. Connect a Tech 2® to the vehicle, cycle the ignition to On with the engine off and build the vehicle. Obtain the navigation system software version number. Compare this number to the version number on the software update CD. If the navigation system software version is the same or higher than the update CD software version, the software update will not start and the update is not necessary.
  2. If the vehicle's navigation system software version is lower that the update CD version, continue with this procedure.
  3. Wait until the audio or map screen is displayed after the Cadillac logo screen.
  4. Eject the map DVD, if loaded. Load the navigation system software update CD into the map DVD loading slot.
  5. The "Preparing to load system software" message will appear on the screen along with a progress bar. When the green progress bar reaches the end, the software update is complete and the system will automatically reset.
  6. Eject the software update CD from the map DVD slot.
  7. Use the Tech 2 to verify that the new software installed in the navigation system matches the version number on the software update CD.
  8. Cycle the ignition to OFF.
  9. Open and close the driver's door and then wait for 60 seconds.
  10. Cycle the ignition to ON.
  11. Load the customer's map DVD into the slot located behind the navigation screen.
  12. Touch the "I agree" screen button. If the "I agree" screen does not come up, select the "globe"/map key to access the navigation screen.
  13. Verify that the navigation system gives the correct location of the vehicle. If necessary, recalibrate the navigation system.
  14. Cycle the ignition to OFF. The navigation system software is now complete.
