Window Intermittently Reverses at Top of Travel During Express Up Operation or Window Does Not Index Properly When Opening and closing a Door (Recalibrate Both Driver and Passenger Door Modules)

Subject:Window Intermittently Reverses at Top of Travel During Express Up Operation or Window Does Not Index Properly When Opening and Closing a Door (Recalibrate Both Driver and Passenger Door Modules)

Models:2005-2007 Cadillac XLR

Condition

Some customers may comment on a power window that intermittently reverses at the top of travel during an express up operation. Others may comment that the window does not index properly when opening or closing a door.

Cause

These conditions may be caused by an anomaly in the window regulator software that causes a loss of window position counts. The loss of counts may lead to a false block reversal at the top of window travel during express up and cause the window to not index properly.

Correction

Do This

Don't Do This

Recalibrate both driver and passenger door modules using a Tech 2®.

DO NOT replace the door window regulator assemblies.

Important: The door module calibration update procedure below can only be performed one time on each module. After a calibration update procedure has been performed on a vehicle, the option to perform the calibration update will no longer be available for that vehicle. If the calibration update option is not available when the Tech 2® (with Tech 2® software version 27.004 or newer) is connected to the vehicle, the door modules have the latest calibration and no further updates are required.

A revised calibration has been developed to address these conditions. Technicians are to recalibrate the driver and passenger door modules using a Tech 2® (not SPS) to address these conditions. Use the following procedure to perform the calibration updates:

  1. Update your Tech 2® to software version 27.004 or newer, if necessary.
  2. Recalibrate the driver and passenger door modules using one of the Tech 2® diagnostic paths listed for the specific models years shown below.
  3. 2005-2006 Cadillac XLR

    • Enter Diagnostics > Select Model Year (2005-2006) > Select Passenger Car > Select Make (Cadillac) > Select Vehicle (Y) > Select (XLR or XLR-V) > Select Body and Accessories > Select Doors > Select Module Setup > Select Driver Door Module > Select Recalibration > Select Passenger Door Module > Select Recalibration
    • The calibration update for both door modules is now complete.

    2007 Cadillac XLR and XLR-V

    • Enter Diagnostics > Select Model Year (2007) > Select Passenger Car > Select Make (Cadillac) > Select Vehicle (Y) > Select (XLR or XLR-V) > Select Body > Select Driver Door > Select Module Set Up > Select Recalibration > Select Passenger Door Module > Select Module Set Up > Select Recalibration
    • The calibration update for both door modules is now complete.
  4. Reinitialize (re-normalize) both the driver and passenger power windows. Refer to the Power Window Reinitialization procedure in SI. Use the Tech 2® to monitor the door module data that will show the windows have been reinitialized (re-normalized).

Important: Recalibrating the door modules with the procedure above may cause the vehicle to lose door mirror personalization settings. Please advise the customer of this so that they can personalize their door mirrors.
