Removal Procedure
- Remove the throttle body. Refer to
Throttle Body Assembly Replacement
.
- Loosen the intake manifold duct clamp (1).
Important: Note the location of the water outlet housing bolts.
- Remove the bolts (1, 2) securing the water outlet housing to the cylinder heads.
The water outlet housing uses two different size bolts. The two bottom bolts are approximately 10 mm (0.39 in) longer than the two upper bolts.
- Reposition the water outlet housing forward in order to gain access to the camshaft position actuator housing bolts.
- Discard the water outlet housing gaskets.
- Remove the right exhaust camshaft sensor. Refer to
Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement - Bank 1 (Right Side) Exhaust
.
- Remove the right intake camshaft sensor. Refer to
Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement - Bank 1 (Right Side) Intake
.
- Remove the right camshaft cover. Refer to
Camshaft Cover Replacement - Right Side
.
- Remove the power steering reservoir . Refer to
Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement
.
- Remove the right intake camshaft position actuator magnet
bolts.
- Remove the right intake camshaft position actuator magnet.
- Remove the right intake camshaft position actuator magnet alignment plug and discard.
- Remove the right exhaust camshaft position actuator magnet bolts.
- Remove the right exhaust camshaft position actuator magnet.
- Remove the right exhaust camshaft position actuator magnet alignment plug and discard.
- Remove the right camshaft position actuator housing bolts.
- Remove the right camshaft position actuator housing.
Installation Procedure
- Install a NEW gasket to the camshaft position actuator
housing.
- Install the right camshaft position actuator housing to the right cylinder head.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the actuator housing bolts and studs.
Tighten
Tighten the actuator housing bolts and studs to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
Important: The camshaft position actuator solenoids must be precisely aligned to the camshaft position actuator oil control valves on the end of the camshafts. This is accomplished with an alignment pin. Failure to align the camshaft
position actuator solenoids to the camshaft position actuator oil control valves can lead to poor engine performance and engine component concerns.
- To allow for camshaft position actuator solenoid to camshaft position actuator oil control valve alignment, DO NOT install NEW camshaft position actuator solenoid alignment plugs at this time.
- Use the following procedure for the camshaft position actuator solenoid alignment:
5.1. | Make an alignment pin from drill rod 15/64 inch diameter and at least 50 mm (1.97 in) long. |
5.2. | Verify that the alignment pin will pass through the camshaft position actuator solenoid alignment hole. |
5.3. | Verify that the alignment pin will fit into the alignment hole in the camshaft position actuator oil control valve. |
5.5. | Install the camshaft position actuator solenoid over the oil control valve. |
5.6. | Install the alignment pin through the solenoid alignment hole and into the oil control valve alignment hole. |
5.7. | With the alignment pin in place, install the camshaft position actuator solenoid bolts. |
Tighten
Tighten the camshaft position actuator solenoid bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).
5.8. | Remove the alignment pin. |
5.9. | Install a NEW camshaft position actuator solenoid plug. |
5.10. | Repeat steps 4 through 8 for the exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoid. |
- Install the right camshaft cover. Refer to
Camshaft Cover Replacement - Right Side
.
- Install the right intake camshaft sensor. Refer to
Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement - Bank 1 (Right Side) Intake
.
- Install the right exhaust camshaft sensor. Refer to
Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement - Bank 1 (Right Side) Exhaust
.
- Install NEW water outlet housing gaskets.
- Install the water outlet housing to the vehicle.
- Install the water outlet housing bolts (1, 2).
Tighten
Tighten the water outlet housing bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Install the intake manifold duct clamp (1).
Tighten
Tighten the intake manifold inlet duct clamp to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
- Install the throttle body. Refer to
Throttle Body Assembly Replacement
.
- Install the power steering reservoir . Refer to
Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement
