DEFINITION: The headlamp washers are inoperative. The windshield washers and headlamps operate normally. The LOW WASHER FLUID message is not displayed.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn the headlamps ON.
  3. Depress the windshield washer switch 4 times.

Do the headlamp washers operate on the fourth press of the windshield washer switch?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Turn ON the headlamps.
  5. With the scan tool, navigate to the Headlamp Washer control parameter by making the following selections:
  6. • Wiper/Washer Systems
    • Special Functions
    • Body Control Module
    • Miscellaneous Test
  7. With the scan tool command the Headlamp Washer ON.

Do the headlamp washers operate when the Headlamp Washer is commanded ON?

Go to Step 10

  1. Turn OFF the headlamps.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition.
  3. Disconnect the headlamp washer relay.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Connect a test lamp from the battery positive voltage circuit of the headlamp washer relay switched input to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

  1. Connect a 30-amp fused jumper wire between the headlamp washer relay control circuit of the underhood fuse block and the headlamp washer pump control circuit of the underhood fuse block.
  2. With a scan tool, command the Headlamp Washer ON.

Does the headlamp washer fluid pump operate?

Go to Step 8

  1. Connect the headlamp washer relay.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector of the headlamp washer fluid pump.
  3. Connect a test lamp from the control circuit of the headlamp washer pump to a good ground.
  4. With a scan tool, command the Headlamp Washer ON.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

  1. Connect a test lamp from the control circuit of the headlamp washer pump to the ground circuit of the headlamp washer pump.
  2. With a scan tool, command the Headlamp Washer ON.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Inspect for poor connections at the headlamp washer relay. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the headlamp washer fluid pump. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the body control module (BCM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Repair the short to ground or open in the control circuit of the headlamp washer pump. Refer to Wiring Repairs .

Repair the high resistance or open in the ground circuit of the headlamp washer pump. Refer to Wiring Repairs .

Repair the short to ground or open in the battery voltage circuit of the headlamp washer relay switched input. Refer to Wiring Repairs .

Replace the headlamp washer relay. Refer to Relay Replacement .

  1. Reconnect all previous disconnected components.
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
