Circuit/System Description

The folding top control (FTC) module checks the integrity of the signal circuit from the rear compartment lid pulldown actuator at least once every 300 milliseconds. The rear compartment lid pulldown actuator has a constant battery positive voltage supplied. During truck or folding top operation, the rear compartment lid pull down actuator will apply the battery positive voltage to the FTC module. The FTC uses this signal as assurance that the latch is clear of the striker. For more detailed information concerning power folding top operation refer to Power Folding Top Description and Operation .

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • Battery voltage must be between 9-16 volts.
    • DTC B1327 is not set as current.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • The FTC module detects a short to voltage in the rear compartment lid pulldown actuator circuit when the rear compartment lid is not ajar.
    • The FTC module detects an open or high resistance in the rear compartment lid pulldown actuator circuit for more than 5 seconds when the rear compartment lid is ajar.

Actions Taken When the DTC Sets

    • FTC module stores DTC B1297 to memory.
    • The rear compartment lid pulldown feature and folding top operation shall be suspended until the fault is corrected.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.
    • You issue a scan tool CLEAR DTCs command.
    • A history DTC will clear once 50 consecutive malfunction-free ignition cycles have occurred.

Diagnostic Aids

The following conditions may cause an intermittent malfunction:

    • Manual operation of the rear compartment lid may cause DTC B1297 to set.
    • A fault which allows the rear compartment lid to release, but does not allow normal folding top operation will set DTC B1297.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear compartment lid pull down actuator.
  2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal H and ground.
  3. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the B+ circuit fuse is open, test the signal circuit terminal C for a short to ground.
  4. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Deck Lid Latch Switch parameter is deck closed.
  5. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal C for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the FTC module.
  6. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal C and the B+ circuit terminal H. Verify the scan tool deck lid latch switch parameter is deck open.
  7. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal C for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the FTC module.
  8. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the rear compartment lid pulldown actuator.
