1. Power folding mirrors malfunction

2. Driver power folding mirror malfunction

Circuit/System Description

This feature allows the operator to simultaneously retract both mirrors to a fully folded position. The driver door switch assembly (DDSA) contains the power folding mirrors switch and, each mirror contains an additional power folding mirror motor. The DDSA sends a class 2 serial data message to the passenger door module (PDM) when the power folding mirror switch is activated to the retract or extend positions. When the PDM detects an active power folding mirror command from the DDSA, the PDM responds by applying battery voltage and ground to the appropriate power folding mirror control circuits of both the driver and passenger power folding mirror motors in order to retract or extend both mirrors. When the switch is activated to unfold the mirrors, the PDM reverses the polarity of the voltage and ground applied to the motors in order to move both mirrors to the fully extended position.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Mirror Fold Switch parameter while cycling the mirror fold switch between the extend and retract positions. The parameter should change between Active and Inactive.
  2. If the parameter does not cycle between the specified values, replace the DDSA.
  3. Command the power folding mirrors to extend and retract using the mirror fold switch. Both mirrors should extend and retract as commanded.

Circuit/System Testing

Power Folding Mirrors Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the passenger outside rearview mirror.
  2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1.0 ohm between the control circuit terminal F and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the passenger door module.
  4. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1.0 ohm between the control circuit terminal E and ground.
  5. If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the passenger door module.
  6. Connect a test lamp between control circuit terminal F and control circuit terminal E.
  7. Command the mirrors to the extend and retract positions with the power folding mirror switch. The test lamp should turn ON when commanding the EXTEND and RETRACT states.
  8. If the test lamp remains OFF during either of the commands, test for a short to ground on either control circuit. If the circuit tests normal, replace the passenger door module.
  9. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the passenger outside rearview mirror.

Driver Power Folding Mirror Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the F/MIR RETRACT relay and the F/MIR EXTEND relay.
  2. Test for less than 1.0 ohm between the ground circuit terminal E2 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Test for less than 1.0 ohm between the ground circuit terminal F2 and ground.
  5. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  6. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal E5 and ground.
  7. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  8. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal F5 and ground.
  9. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  10. Connect a test lamp between control circuit terminal E1 and ground terminal E2.
  11. Command the driver mirror to the retract position with the power folding mirror switch. The test lamp should turn ON when commanding the RETRACT state.
  12. If the test lamp remains OFF during the command, test for a short to ground or an open/high resistance on the control circuit.
  13. Connect a test lamp between control circuit terminal F1 and ground terminal F2.
  14. Command the driver mirror to the extend position with the power folding mirror switch. The test lamp should turn ON when commanding the EXTEND state.
  15. If the test lamp remains OFF during the command, test for a short to ground or an open/high resistance on the control circuit.
  16. Connect the F/MIR RETRACT relay and the F/MIR EXTEND relay.
  17. Disconnect the X2 harness connector at the driver outside rearview mirror.
  18. Connect a test lamp between control circuit terminal F and control circuit terminal E.
  19. Command the driver mirror to the extend and retract positions with the power folding mirror switch. The test lamp should turn ON when commanding the EXTEND and RETRACT states.
  20. If the test lamp remains OFF during either of the commands, test for a short to ground or an open/high resistance on either control circuit. If the circuits test normal, replace the appropriate F/MIR relay.
  21. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the driver outside rearview mirror.
