Circuit/System Description

When the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) receives an input from either the driver exterior door handle switch or driver interior door handle switch, it checks the Lock/Unlock status of the driver door. If the status of the driver door is Unlock, the RCDLR applies the ground for the driver door latch.

At the same time that the RCDLR is receiving its input, the driver door module (DDM) is also receiving the same input. When the DDM receives its input from the door handle switch, it sends a serial data message to the body control module (BCM) to apply voltage for the driver door latch..

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Driver Door Module Ext. Driver Door Handle Switch and the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Ext. LF Door Handle Switch parameters while using the exterior driver door handle. The parameters should change from Inactive and Active.
  2. If the value does not change between the commanded states, refer to Exterior Driver Door Handle Switch Malfunction.
  3. Observe the scan tool Driver Door Module Int. Driver Door Handle Switch and the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Int. LF Door Handle Switch parameters while using the interior driver door handle. The parameters should change from Inactive and Active.
  4. If the value does not change between the commanded states, refer to Interior Driver Door Handle Switch Malfunction.
  5. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Passenger Door Module Ext. Psgr. Door Handle Switch and the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Ext. RF Door Handle Switch parameters while using the exterior passenger door handle. The parameters should change from Inactive and Active.
  6. If the value does not change between the commanded states, refer to Exterior Passenger Door Handle Switch Malfunction.
  7. Observe the scan tool Passenger Door Module Int. Psgr. Door Handle Switch and the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Int. RF Door Handle Switch parameters while using the interior passenger door handle. The parameters should change from Inactive and Active.
  8. If the value does not change between the commanded states, refer to Interior Passenger Door Handle Switch Malfunction.
  9. Command the passenger and driver door latches by using the interior driver and passenger door handle switches. Each door latch should activate when using their respective interior door handle switch.
  10. If a door latch does not activate, refer to Door Latch Malfunction.

Circuit/System Testing

Exterior Driver Door Handle Switch Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the exterior driver door handle switch.
  2. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between B+ and the ground circuit terminal C.
  3. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Driver Door Module Ext. Driver Door Handle Switch parameter is Inactive.
  5. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal D for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the DDM.
  6. Verify the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Ext. LF Door Handle Switch parameter is Inactive.
  7. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal A for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RCDLR.
  8. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal D and ground terminal C. Verify the scan tool Driver Door Module Ext. Driver Door Handle Switch parameter is Active.
  9. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the DDM.
  10. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal A and ground terminal C. Verify the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Ext. Ext. LF Door Handle Switch parameter is Active.
  11. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RCDLR.
  12. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the exterior driver door handle switch.

Interior Driver Door Handle Switch Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the interior driver door handle switch.
  2. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between B+ and the ground circuit terminal A.
  3. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Driver Door Module Int. Driver Door Handle Switch parameter is Inactive.
  5. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal C for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the DDM.
  6. Verify the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Int. LF Door Handle Switch parameter is Inactive.
  7. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal B for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RCDLR.
  8. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal C and ground terminal A. Verify the scan tool Driver Door Module Int. Driver Door Handle Switch parameter is Active.
  9. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the DDM.
  10. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal B and ground terminal A. Verify the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Int. LF Door Handle Switch parameter is Active.
  11. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RCDLR.
  12. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the interior driver door handle switch.

Exterior Passenger Door Handle Switch Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the exterior passenger door handle switch.
  2. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between B+ and the ground circuit terminal C.
  3. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Passenger Door Module Ext. Psgr. Door Handle Switch parameter is Inactive.
  5. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal D for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the PDM.
  6. Verify the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Ext. RF Door Handle Switch parameter is Inactive.
  7. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal A for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RCDLR.
  8. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal D and ground terminal C. Verify the scan tool Passenger Door Module Ext. Psgr. Door Handle Switch parameter is Active.
  9. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the PDM.
  10. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal A and ground terminal C. Verify the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Ext. Ext. RF Door Handle Switch parameter is Active.
  11. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RCDLR.
  12. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the exterior passenger door handle switch.

Interior Passenger Door Handle Switch Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the interior passenger door handle switch.
  2. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between B+ and the ground circuit terminal A.
  3. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Passenger Door Module Int. Psgr. Door Handle Switch parameter is Inactive.
  5. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal C for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the PDM.
  6. Verify the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Int. RF Door Handle Switch parameter is Inactive.
  7. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal B for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RCDLR.
  8. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal C and ground terminal A. Verify the scan tool Passenger Door Module Int. Psgr. Door Handle Switch parameter is Active.
  9. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the PDM.
  10. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal B and ground terminal A. Verify the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Int. RF Door Handle Switch parameter is Active.
  11. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RCDLR.
  12. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the interior passenger door handle switch.

Door Latch Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door latch.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal listed below and ground.
  3. • Driver door latch control circuit terminal 3
    • Passenger door latch control circuit terminal 8
  4. Ignition ON, command the door latch by using the interior door handle switch. The test lamp should turn ON when activating the door handle switch.
  5. If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
    If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  6. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminals listed below.
  7. • Driver door latch control circuit terminal 3 and latch enable control circuit terminal 4
    • Passenger door latch control circuit terminal 8 and latch enable control circuit terminal 9
  8. Ignition ON, command the door latch by using the interior door handle switch. The test lamp should turn ON when activating the door handle switch.
  9. If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RCDLR.
    If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RCDLR.
  10. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the door latch.

Component Testing

Door Latch Test

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door latch.
  2. Ignition ON, install a 15A fused jumper wire between the control terminal listed below and 12V.
  3. • Control terminal 3
    • Control terminal 8
  4. Momentarily install a jumper wire between the control terminal listed below and ground. The door latch should perform the LOCK/ UNLOCK function
  5. • Control terminal 4
    • Control terminal 9
    If the function does not perform as specified, replace the door latch.
  6. Reverse the jumper wires; the door latch should perform the UNLOCK/LOCK function.
  7. If the function does not perform as specified, replace the door latch.

Exterior Door Handle SwitchTest

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate exterior door handle switch.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal A and terminal D and the ground terminal C with the switch in the open position.
  3. If not the specified value, replace the exterior door handle switch.
  4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the signal terminal A and the ground terminal C with the switch in the closed position.
  5. If greater than the specified range, replace the exterior door handle switch
  6. Test for less than 2 ohms between the signal terminal D and the ground terminal C with the switch in the closed position.
  7. If greater than the specified range, replace the exterior door handle switch.

Interior Door Handle SwitchTest

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate interior door handle switch.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal B and terminal C and the ground terminal A with the switch in the open position.
  3. If not the specified value, replace the interior door handle switch.
  4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the signal terminal B and the ground terminal A with the switch in the closed position.
  5. If greater than the specified range, replace the interior door handle switch
  6. Test for less than 2 ohms between the signal terminal C and the ground terminal A with the switch in the closed position.
  7. If greater than the specified range, replace the interior door handle switch.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
