    Object Number: 64160  Size: SH
  1. Using the J 42170  (1), the DT-48007  (2), and a hydraulic press, install the bearing onto the pinion shaft.

  2. Object Number: 1041977  Size: SH
  3. Assemble the pinion shaft (119), spacer (29), and bearing (31) into the housing/cage (4).

  4. Object Number: 64162  Size: SH
  5. Using the J 42170  (1), the DT-48007  (2), and a hydraulic press, install the bearing onto the pinion shaft.
  6. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 64142  Size: SH
  7. Using a torque wrench, the J 42172  (1), and the DT-48007  (2), install the nut onto the pinion shaft.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 500 N·m (370 lb ft).

  9. Using a punch, stake the areas of the nut into the notches in the end of the pinion shaft.
  10. Using the DT-48007 , measure the rotating torque of the pinion shaft. A properly assembled pinion shaft and bearings should have a rotating torque of 1.4-2.8 N·m (12-25 lb in).
