J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 938431  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect and remove the A/C tube connector (1) at the evaporator rear line assembly. Refer to Air Conditioning Line/Tube Connector Removal/Replacement .

  5. Object Number: 938466  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the front evaporator inlet line from the body retaining clip (1).
  7. Disconnect the refrigerant pressure sensor electrical connector (2).

  8. Object Number: 938430  Size: SH
  9. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  10. Remove the front evaporator inlet line to A/C condenser lower bolt.
  11. Important: Immediately cap or tape the open A/C components immediately in order to prevent contamination.

  12. Disconnect the front evaporator line inlet from the A/C condenser.
  13. Remove and discard the sealing washer.
  14. Cap or tape off the A/C condenser.
  15. Lower the vehicle.

  17. Disconnect the front evaporator inlet line from the evaporator rear line assembly.
  18. Remove and discard the O-rings.
  19. Cap or tape the evaporator rear line assembly.

  21. Disconnect the surge tank outlet hose and the inlet heater hose from the underhood junction box retainer clip (1).
  22. Remove the front evaporator inlet line from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the front evaporator inlet line to the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 931717  Size: SH
  3. Connect the surge tank outlet hose and the inlet heater hose to the underhood junction box retainer clip (1).

  4. Object Number: 1313943  Size: SH
  5. Remove cap or tape from the evaporator rear line assembly.
  6. Install new O-rings to the rear evaporator line assembly. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  7. Connect the front evaporator inlet line to the evaporator rear line assembly.
  8. Raise the vehicle.
  9. Remove cap or tape from the A/C condenser.
  10. Install a new sealing washer to the front evaporator inlet line. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  11. Connect the front evaporator inlet line to the A/C condenser.
  12. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  13. Install the front evaporator inlet line to A/C condenser lower bolt.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Connect the front evaporator inlet line to the body retaining clip (1).

  18. Connect the refrigerant pressure sensor electrical connector (2).

  20. Connect the A/C tube connector (1) at the evaporator rear line assembly. Refer to Air Conditioning Line/Tube Connector Removal/Replacement .
  21. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .
  22. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  23. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A .
