This PI was superseded to update model years. Please discard PIP3839.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may complain of a belt squeal or chirp noise, typically after the engine is cold started. This may be the result of foreign material in the upper air conditioning belt tensioner bolt hole, preventing the bolt from applying a full clamp load on the tensioner.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If this concern is experienced, temporarily remove the supercharger belt and re-evaluate the noise. If the noise is still present, the noise is coming from the air conditioning belt and the following steps should be completed:

  1. Remove the air conditioning belt tensioner.
  2. Tap the upper air conditioning belt tensioner bolt hole with a M8 X 1.25 tap to clean the threads.
  3. Blow out the hole with compressed air.
  4. Thread the bolt in to the end of the bolt threads by hand to ensure proper thread depth.
  5. Install the air conditioning belt tensioner.
  6. Re-evaluate the noise to confirm that the vehicle is repaired.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
