J 42188 Ball Joint Separator

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
3. Loosen, do not remove, the outer tie rod end stud nut (2) from the outer tie rod end ball stud.
4. Using the J 42188 , loosen the outer tie rod end stud to steering knuckle connection.



5. Remove the outer tie rod end stud nut (3) in order to separate the tie rod (5) from the steering knuckle (4).
6. Loosen the jam nut (2) on the inner tie rod assembly.
7. Remove the outer tie rod end (5) from the inner tie rod assembly (1).

1. Install the outer tie rod end (5) to the inner tie rod assembly (1). Do not tighten the jam nut.
2. Install the outer tie rod end stud (5) to the steering knuckle (4).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

3. Install the outer tie rod end stud nut (3) to the outer tie rod end stud (5) and tighten to 30 N·m (22 lb ft) plus 120 degrees to seat the stud.
4. Install the tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Adjust the front wheel toe. Refer to Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment.
