Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
- If equipped, disconnect the rear shock electronic suspension control (ESC) harness connector.
- If equipped, disconnect the harness pigtail from the upper shock tower clip.
- Remove the shock absorber to lower control arm mounting bolt.
- Remove the shock absorber upper mounting bolts.
- Disconnect the outer tie rod from the suspension knuckle. Refer to
Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement.
- Carefully remove the shock absorber from the vehicle. If equipped, take care when routing the ESC pigtail and connector through the upper shock tower.
- Remove the upper insulator retainer and insulator from the shock absorber.
Installation Procedure
- Install the upper insulator retainer and insulator to the shock absorber.
Note: If equipped, the ESC connector must be installed facing the inward position, while the white paint mark on the bottom bracket must be facing outward. The bracket to ESC connector orientation is 180 degrees.
- Carefully install the shock absorber to the shock tower and lower control arm. If equipped, take care when routing the ESC pigtail and connector through the upper shock tower.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Install the shock absorber upper mounting bolts and tighten to
30 N·m (22 lb ft).
Caution: To avoid breaking the mounting bolt that attaches the shock absorber to the lower control arm, tighten the bolt. Do NOT tighten the nut.
- Install the shock absorber lower mounting bolt and nut and tighten to
145 N·m (107 lb ft).
- Connect the outer tie rod to the suspension knuckle. Refer to
Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement.
- If equipped, connect the harness pigtail to the upper shock tower clip.
- If equipped, connect the rear shock ESC harness connector.
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
- Lower the vehicle.
