DTC Descriptors

DTC C0288 00:  Brake Pad Wear Signal Circuit

DTC C0288 02:  Brake Pad Wear Signal Circuit short to ground

Circuit/System Description

The electronic brake control module (EBCM) monitors the brake pad wear indicators. When the electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects the brake pad to be worn down to an unacceptable level a warning message will be displayed on the DIC warning the owner to service the brake pad and rotors

Conditions for Running the DTC

The engine is running.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

Worn brake pads, or a short to ground on the sensor return circuit.

Actions Taken When the DTC Sets

A DIC message and/or a warning message may be displayed

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition for the DTC is no longer present.
    • The EBCM clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Verify brake wear sensors are not contacting rotor surface..
  2. If wear indicator has made rotor contact, service brake pads on the affected axle.
  3. Verify that DTC C0288 02 is not set.
  4. If DTC C0288 02 is set, test and repair brake wear sensor signal circuit for a short to ground condition.
  5. If DTC C0288 still sets, measure for open between PIN 30 and 23 at EBCM connector side.
  6. If sensors and circuits test OK and DTC is still set replace EBCM.
