The 76mm and 89mm four-speed transmissions may develop a "stuck in gear" condition. This condition may be caused by the external shifter assembly slipping into neutral. This happens because the 1-2 shift lever is chamfered, allowing the selector pin to slide past the lever into a neutral position while the transmission remains in gear.
An improved shifter has been released eliminating the chamfer on the 1-2 shift lever. The shifter may be used on past models to replace worn or damaged shifter assemblies. The shifter part number for each model are as follows:
C/K 15538302
G 15522263

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
