SLIDING DOOR ATTACHMENT

Model and Year: 1985-86 "M" VAN

TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

A new center track and roller bracket assembly has been released for 1985-86 M Vans to improve the sliding side door system durability. Effective with VIN 1G8DM15Z9GB135091 on November 22, 1985, all M Vans are built with the new track and roller brackets.

If the sliding door exhibits damage to the center track or roller bracket assembly, both parts must be replaced with the new part number parts.

Perform the following service procedure when installing the new parts (listed below) on vehicles requiring side door repair.

Service Procedure

1. Basecoat/clearcoat the new center track and roller bracket assembly to match the vehicle exterior finish.

2. Remove interior trim panels (passenger model only) from right rear quarter panel to expose center track assembly and track cover fasteners (See Figure No. 1).

3. Remove the right rear tail lamp assembly and rubber plug to expose rearmost nut securing center track cover.

4. Remove the two bottom door lock assembly screws from the sliding door. Loosen the top screw and pivot the latch outboard.

5. Remove the pin from the roller bracket assembly (See Figure No. 3). Support the bottom of the door so that it does not drop after the pin is removed.

6. Remove the center track cover (See Figure No. 2).

7. Remove the old roller bracket assembly and discard.

8. Remove the fasteners which secure the center track assembly (See Figure No. 1). Care should be used when removing this piece so that the vehicle is not scratched.

9. Loosely install the new center track (P/N 15554723) using the existing fasteners. Reinstall track plug. Install new roller bracket in track. Reinstall pin in door and roller bracket. Reinstall screws in door lock (See Figure No. 1 and No. 3). Align the door for even gaps in the fore/aft direction when closed, then slide the track assembly rearward until rollers touch center track flange. Torque center track hardware 10-14 N.m (7-10 ft. lbs.).

10. Reinstall center track cover. Torque the three screws 3-4 N.m (2-3 ft. lbs.) and the nut 10-14 N.m (7-10 ft. lbs.) (See Figure No. 2).

11. Test door for smooth opening and closing operation and inspect the door fit in the closed position.

12. Reinstall interior trim panels if previously removed.
