  1. Disconnect the generator connector.
  2. Turn ON the ignition switch.
  3. Connect a voltmeter from BRN (25) wire at the generator connector to ground.

Does the voltmeter show battery voltage?

Connect the voltmeter from the terminal (BAT) at the generator to ground.

Does the voltmeter show battery voltage?

Go to Step 4

Locate and repair an open RED (2) wire from a fusible link at the splice S132 to the generator.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

--

  1. Connect the generator connector.
  2. Run the engine at fast idle.
  3. Turn OFF all accessories.
  4. Connect the voltmeter across the battery terminals.

Is the voltmeter reading within the specified range?

13--16 V

Go to Battery Load Test

Go to Step 5

  1. Perform the generator bench test. Refer to Generator Assembly Bench Test.
  2. If the generator is OK, perform the battery load test. Refer to Battery Load Test.

  1. Disconnect the I/P cluster connector.
  2. Using the ohmmeter, test BRN (25) wire for resistance from the I/P cluster connector to the generator connector.

Is the resistance greater than the specified value?

10 ohms

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 7

Locate and repair an open in BRN (25) wire from the I/P cluster to the generator.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. Connect the voltmeter from PNK (39) wire at the I/P cluster connector to ground.
  2. Turn ON the ignition switch.

Does the voltmeter show battery voltage?

--

Go to Step 10

Go to Step 9

Locate and repair an open in PNK (39) wire from the I/P fuse block to the I/P cluster.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

--

Remove and inspect the battery indicator lamp.

Is the lamp open?

--

Go to Step 12

Repair or replace the I/P cluster as necessary.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

--

Using an ohmmeter, test across B16 and B17 pins of the I/P cluster for resistance.

Is the resistance within the specified range?

400-600 ohms

Go to Step 13

Replace the battery indicator lamp.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. Replace the instrument cluster.
  2. Replace the battery indicator lamp.

Is the repair complete?
