SUBJECT: INFORMATION ON HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR

MODELS: 1998 CHEVROLET AND GMC M/L MODELS 1998 EXPORT WITH 4.3L ENGINE (VIN W--RPO L35)

THE 1998 CHEVROLET AND GMC M/L MODELS USE A UNIQUE HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR RELEASED FOR THEIR MODEL YEAR/VEHICLE APPLICATION ONLY.

ALL CHEVROLET AND GMC M/L MODELS ARE BUILT WITH THE PROPER HEATED OXYGEN SENSORS.

THE USE OF ANY OTHER HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR FOR SERVICE, IN 1998 M/L APPLICATIONS, MAY SET THE FOLLOWING DIAGNOSTIC TEST CODES:

DTC P0135--02 SENSOR HEATER CKT., BANK 1, NO. 1 DTC P0147--02 SENSOR HEATER CKT., BANK 1, NO. 3 DTC P0155--02 SENSOR HEATER CKT., BANK 2, NO. 1

DRIVEABILITY SYMPTOMS, DUE TO INCORRECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR USAGE, MAY NOT BE EVIDENT.

THE CORRECT M/L VAN HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY THE FOLLOWING (SEE FIGURE 1--HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR IDENTIFICATION):

1 -- TYPICAL PRE-CONVERTER HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR 2 -- TYPICAL POST-CONVERTER HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR 3 -- 1998 M/L VAN HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR, PRE AND POST CONVERTER LOCATIONS 4 -- LOCATION OF STAMPED PART NUMBER

THE HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR, FOR 1998 M/L VAN APPLICATIONS, SHOULD NOT BE USED IN ANY OTHER VEHICLE APPLICATION. INCORRECT OXYGEN SENSOR READINGS WILL RESULT.

CHECK THE CURRENT GMSPO CATALOGUE FOR THE CORRECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR PART NUMBER.
