Removal Procedure

  1. Apply the parking brake.

  2. Object Number: 179852  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the brake pipes.
  4. Plug the pipes in order to prevent brake fluid loss or contamination.

  5. Object Number: 179850  Size: SH
  6. Remove the master cylinder nuts.
  7. Remove the master cylinder.

Installation Procedure

Before you install the master cylinder, bench bleed the master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Bench Bleeding .

  1. Install the master cylinder.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the master cylinder nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 36 N·m (27 lb ft).

  5. Loosely connect the brake pipes.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the pipe nuts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  7. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
