  1. Disconnect the park brake warning switch connector.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to run.
  3. Check that the parking brake is released.

Does the brake indicator turn off?

Go to Step 3

Ensure that the park brake warning switch is properly adjusted. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .

Is the adjustment OK?

Replace the park brake warning switch.

Is the repair complete?

Disconnect the brake pressure warning switch connector.

Does the brake indicator turn off?

Go to Step 6

  1. Ensure that the master cylinder is full of fluid.
  2. Replace the park brake warning switch.

Is the repair complete?

Disconnect the electronic brake control module (EBCM) C1 connector.

Does the brake indicator turn off?

Replace the electronic brake control module (EBCM). Refer to Electronic Brake Control Module Replacement in Antilock Brake Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Disconnect the daytime running lamp (DRL) module connector.

Does the brake indicator turn off?

Connect a DMMJ 39200 to TAN/WHT (33) wire cavity F to ground.

Is there continuity?

 

Go to Step 11

Go to Step 12

Locate and repair short to ground in TAN/WHT (33) wire between S127 and daytime running lamp (DRL) module.

Is the repair complete?

 

Go to Hydraulic Brake Diagnostic System Check

Connect a DMMJ 39200 to LT BLU (1134) wire cavity A to ground.

Is there continuity?

 

Go to Step 13

Go to Step 14

Locate and repair short to ground in LT BLU (1134) wire between park brake warning switch and daytime running lamp (DRL) module.

Is the repair complete?

 

Go to Hydraulic Brake Diagnostic System Check

Connect a DMMJ 39200 to LT BLU (1134) wire cavity B to ground.

Is there continuity?

 

Go to Step 15

Disconnect the steering column C201 connector.

Does the test lamp light?

Replace the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering.

Locate and repair short to ground in LT BLU (1134) wire between Ignition switch and daytime running lamp (DRL) module.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the daytime running lamps (DRL) module. Refer to Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Control Module Replacement in Lighting Systems.

With a test lampJ 35616-200 backprobe the instrument cluster connector TAN/WHT (33) wire cavity E and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Locate and repair short to ground in TAN/WHT (33) wire between instrument cluster and daytime running lamp (DRL) module.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel Gauges and Console.

  2. Turn Ignition switch to RUN.

Does the Brake Indicator lamp remain lit?

Disconnect Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) C1 Connector.

Does the Brake Indicator remain lit?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - ABS

Check for proper adjustment of Park Brake Indicator Switch. If OK, replace Park Brake Indicator Switch.

Is the repair complete?

Inspect TAN/WHT (33) for a short to ground.

Did you find a short to ground?
