Removal Procedure

  1. Release the park brake (5).
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
  4. Loosen the equalizer.
  5. Remove the release handle.
  6. Disconnect the connector from the park brake switch.
  7. Remove the bolts (2).
  8. Disconnect the park brake cable (3) from the lever (1). The locating tab on the lever must be straightened to release the cable.
  9. Remove the lever assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the park brake cable (3) to the lever assembly. Bend the locating tab over the cable.
  2. Install the lever assembly.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the bolts (2).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  6. Connect the connector to the park brake switch.
  7. Install the release handle.
  8. Connect the battery negative cable.
  9. Adjust the park brake. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .
