J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-4.3L.
  2. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  4. Remove the compressor hose assembly bolt (3) from the compressor.

  5. Object Number: 280389  Size: SH
  6. Remove the compressor hose assembly (7) from the compressor in order to expose the sealing washers.

  7. Object Number: 573980  Size: SH
  8. Remove the sealing washers (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Clean the following locations with a lint-free rag before installing the sealing washers:
  2. • The sealing surfaces of the washers
    • The hose block
    • The compressor ports

    Important: Do not oil the sealing washers prior to assembly.

  3. Install the sealing washer onto the pilots of the suction/discharge block fitting. Ensure that the washers are seated against the surface of the block fitting.

  5. Install the sealing washers (1). Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .

  6. Object Number: 280389  Size: SH
  7. Install the compressor hose assembly (7) to the compressor. Verify that the sealing washers are seated within the compressor's machined surfaces.
  8. Hold the block in place while hand tightening the attachment bolt.

  9. Object Number: 573934  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  10. Install the compressor hose assembly bolt (3) to the compressor.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).

  12. Evacuate and recharge the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  13. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A .
  14. Install the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-4.3L.
